Fruit and vegetable crops are rich in dietary fibre, vitamins minerals, which vital to human health. However, many biotic stressors (such as pests diseases) abiotic threaten crop growth, quality, yield. Traditional breeding strategies for improving traits include a series of backcrosses selection introduce beneficial into fine germplasm, this process is slow resource-intensive. The new technique known clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-CRISPR-associated protein-9 (Cas9) has the potential improve rapidly accurately, such yield, disease resistance, stress tolerance, nutritional aspects crops. Because its simple operation high mutation efficiency, system been applied obtain germplasm resources via gene-directed mutation.
